Celebrating Athletics and Club Happenings

Good afternoon Gunners!

I’m back with some updates on the club and all of our talented members. First up- athletics!

The football team has continued their undefeated season with two more wins against Columbia and Lafayette. This makes the Tigers one of three unbeaten teams in the FCS, and #17 in the FCS poll. In terms of personal accolades, President Andrew Griffin has just received the PNC Student-Athlete Achiever Award. This award is given to two student-athletes per season that exemplify achievement in the classroom and on the field.

In addition to Andrew’s personal achievement, Cannon member and women’s volleyball player Maggie O’Connell has recently been sponsored for the Rhodes Scholarship. After graduation, the CBE major is looking to research environmental policy at Oxford. The University has sponsored her so she is now able to move forward in the Rhodes Scholarship application process, and we wish her the best of luck! Also in volleyball news, member Tash Skov (right) has secured Ivy League Player of the Week after her performances against Yale and Brown.

The women’s lacrosse team has just received their 2019 Ivy League Championship rings, making it the 6th consecutive year that Princeton has taken home the championship. This years senior class which includes members Laura Pansini, Katie Reilly, and Vice President Maddie Staczek will be on the hunt for their fourth ring this upcoming season.

Last week, social chairs Will and Taylor planned a fun comedy night for members. Princeton Men’s Basketball Alum Noah Savage ’08, who calls Princeton basketball games for ESPN, brought a few comics to the club. Alison Leiby who wrote for Marvelous Ms. Maisel, Alyssa Wolf who wrote for Cosmo, Will Winner on Comedy Central, Taj Osirio, and Matt Bachus all gave great performances and kept the club laughing. This past weekend, the club’s Activity Chair Abby Hack planned a trip to Fright Fest at Six Flags. Members took a bus up to the amusement park to enjoy rides and haunted attractions to get in the Halloween spirit. As we get further into the fall, we’ll be planning more fun events for the holiday.

Coming up soon is Homecoming! The Tigers will take on Harvard on Saturday, October 26th. Stop on by the club if you are here for the game, we’d love to see you! There will also be a table set up inside from 10:30-12:30 taking any orders for the gear store. Jessie has created a great site with a range of awesome Gunner gear for all current and past members to enjoy, so make sure you place your orders!
