This will be the first post in a two part series so you can get to know your new officers! Without further ado, here we go.
Nnenna Ibe – Bicker Chair
Hey! My name is Nnenna Ibe, I’m a member of the class of 2019. I hail from Burlington, New Jersey and am majoring in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology with a certificate in African Studies. On campus, I am a member of the Women’s Varsity Volleyball team and the Scholars’ Institute Fellows Program. Last summer, I got the amazing opportunity to learn about the history of colonization in Namibia and shadow doctors in Spain. This summer, I plan on doing field research on mosquitoes in Nigeria and Ghana. I have had a great experience thus far in Cannon and am super excited to continue that experience by serving as Cannon’s bicker chair this year. #Gunner4Life
Ali Whiting – Treasurer
I’m from San Diego, CA and am a Neuroscience major on the pre-medicine track at Princeton. On campus, I play soccer for the varsity women’s soccer team as an outsider defender and also tutor undergraduate students in Chemistry at the McGraw Center for Teaching & Learning. I am especially grateful to represent Cannon alongside the other officers and dedicate my time and energy to show the new members (& everyone!) how amazing Cannon truly is! I look at my new role as treasurer as an opportunity to give back to the club that has had the most impact on me during my time at Princeton. This summer, I will have the opportunity to conduct Neuroscience research for my thesis on neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s, specifically looking at different therapeutic drug options to combat the diseases and their pathways.
Gabrielle Rush – Activities Chair
My name is Gabrielle Rush and I am a junior in the economics department. I am a member of the women’s basketball team and I’m from Hinsdale, Illinois. Last summer, I did an IIP in Buenos Aires with a small ecommerce company called Avenida and this summer I am interning for Credit Suisse in New York City.
Dan Petticord – House Manager
My name is Dan Petticord and I am the new House Manager for CDE, the best club on The Street. I’m majoring in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, with a certificate in Environmental Science. I came to Princeton (from Ohio!) as a Varsity football player, but due to injury, have been prematurely retired. I’m still an active member of the team but can no longer compete. To replace some of that time commitment, I work in two research laboratories on campus. In the vonHoldt Lab, I am studying aggressive behavior in wolves, and in the Zhang Lab, I am assisting work on N-fixing bacteria. I also founded and run Princeton’s SEEDs chapter, an undergraduate focused club on professional development within the life sciences. This summer, I’ll be traveling to Kenya to manage my own research team focused on the ecology of the Leopard Tortoise, which will be the foundation for my Princeton thesis. I’m excited for the opportunities I’ll have in this coming year to continue making Cannon the amazing place it is and the wonderful home it will be for our new members!
Jake Strain – Social 21 Chair
My name is Jake Strain, I’m from Springfield, Pennsylvania and a member of the Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) Class of 2019. I am on the Princeton Varsity Football team and a member of the Varsity Student Advisory Committee (VSAAC). This summer I will be interning for the head distiller at New Liberty Distillery in Philadelphia, which specializes in craft whiskeys as well as rums.
Stay tuned for next week as you get to meet the other half of the officer crew!
Sports Update: The women’s basketball team finished off their regular season by completing the weekend sweep of Brown and Yale, clinching the outright regular season Ivy League title. Leslie Robinson recorded the first triple double in program history against Brown. If you are in the Philly area, head over to the Palestra to cheer them on as they try to win the Ivy League Tournament to clinch a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Next week will also have a list of Gunners on spring sports teams so you can stay up to date on how our Gunners are faring in their spring seasons!
Have a great week!
