Marion is a central force in the story of Cannon Dial Elm.
Almost two decades ago, she was the first official (and, at the time, sole) employee, and worked here a few hours a week when the club was an empty building with no furniture and minimal amenities. Working in tandem at that time with the late Warren Crane, whose singular vision brought the club back to the street in its current form, Marion has since been the backbone of CDE and has been a constant presence for members and alumni alike.
Anyone who has visited or dined at Cannon Dial Elm Club in the past decade and a half has probably had the pleasure of knowing or speaking with Marion. She’s probably the voice who answered the office phone when you called with a question or the person who answered the email you sent to Cannon for a Reunions parking spot or to RSVP for Homecoming festivities. Any physical aspect of the club that you have enjoyed, be it decor or memorabilia or signage, has probably had Marion’s careful eye applied to it. And while the club’s welcoming, home-like vibes can’t be seen with the eye, kind and approachable Marion’s fingerprints are all over those too.
Last Friday was Marion’s last day working for Cannon, as she starts her next life chapter with a well-deserved retirement. The club thanks her for her tireless dedication, the countless hours of hard work, and her boundless knowledge. Cannon Dial Elm Club would not and could not exist without Marion and all she has contributed.
